Suwada Cuticle Pusher

A tool that improves the look and health of your nails, even more than a nail nipper.

The cuticle of your nail is the thin skin that gets dragged out as the nail grows. All nails have it, all people have it.

For a nail to look good, large and healthy, we need to take care of that area. A cuticle pusher is a great tool to have for this reason.

As you can see on the pictures, one side is shaped like a scoop. This is to gently push back the cuticles, close to the root of the nail. Without reaching the edge, you only need to detach the from the nail.

The other side of the pusher is a sharp curved edge. You use this side to slowly remove the cuticles. You will cut them instead of dragging them and hurting your skin.

The knurled handle gives you stability when using it, so that you can clean the cuticles easily and with no hassle.

Cuticle pushers are most often used by professionals and nail artists. It will take a couple of sessions to learn how to use it, but the results from then on will reward you in confidence and happiness for your nail looks.

It comes packed in a plastic pocket bag which you can keep for storage.

How to clean your cuticles

First of all, you must look at your nails and understand the difference between the cuticles and the eponychium. The eponychium is the living skin that attaches itself to the nail. The cuticle is the layer of dead skin that is between the eponychium and the nail surface.

The biological function of the cuticles is to prevent any foreign particles from entering the body. However once it stretches too much from the base of the nail it doesn't offer much in terms of function. That bit we can remove to achieve a better appearance.

Start removing your cuticles after a warm shower. Otherwise soak them in warm water for 3-5 minutes. Check what part looks like it needs care. Any dry skin you had noticed, any long cuticles.

Gently cut off any parts of the eponychium that are too dry (dead skin). Once you have cleaned it, push it back with the scoop and clean any cuticles left. Careful not to tear ofrstrain your skin.

Use a dry cloth to dry the fingertips. Moisturize and massage your hand and fingers.

All our products are made by artisans in Suwada Open Factory, in Niigata, Japan. The factory is open to the public without reservations to ensure transparency for all our claims.

In rare cases we collaborate with local companies to promote a product that we think you will love. In those cases we ensure that the companies adhere 100% to our highest standards of employee work conditions and traditional methods for crafting goods.

Once an object is made in Suwada, it is taken through extensive testing to ensure quality and durability. We hold the highest quality control standards possible, checking all items, one by one.

Craftsmanship is at the core of our model, and we make sure our craftspeople have great lives, high salaries and are able to expand their knowledge in their field when they wish to do so. This approach of continuous learning has pushed traditional crafts to a whole new level, and has permitted Suwada to train a new generation of men and women in Japanese metal crafts. We absolutely oppose machine made goods that can be made better by hand, and poor working conditions that treat people as if they are product making machines.

Our prices reflect humanist ideals. When you buy Suwada, you buy quality. You support vibrant communities of craftspeople, who design and make useful and beautiful objects, that will improve your everyday life, and carry a little of their maker's spirit in them. When you buy Suwada, you reaffirm all humanist values and virtues, and you chose unique over common.
